What is locum tenens?
Locum tenens is Latin for “to hold the place of” and refers to temporary medical professionals who fill staffing gaps in healthcare facilities, allowing for a seamless continuity in patient care. Physicians work locums for different reasons, including work/life balance, better pay, and the chance to travel and explore new opportunities.

Is locum tenens and different from per diem?
Per diem work is “as needed.” A per diem worker may be needed one day and not the next. Locum tenens assignments are contracted and have a set start and end date.

If I have a full-time job, can I work locum tenens on the side?
